I adore Raymond Briggs The Snowman and have a book of cross stitch patterns based on the film – but I am bored of cross stitch!
Can I use the patterns to make a latch hook rug or would it not work because you wouldn’t be able to see the details?
Is there any other crafts which I could use the patterns with?

Small cross stitched pieces can be used to make a greeting card for someone special. Buy the trifold blanks with an aperture (there are circles, ovals, rectangles and other shapes available in various sizes) from a craft shop. Use a peel-off for the greeting.
I know of one bride who made all her wedding invitations in this way – now that would be boring.
There are also special grids you can paint through in your cross stitch pattern to give a faux cross stitch look. Especially good if you use 3D paints.
Cross-stitch is actually now being used as a fashion statement. There are now clothes (dresses and accessories such as bags, clutch, to be exact) bearing a cross-stitch design. There is a lot more you can do if you put your mind to it. ou can even create your own quilt with all the cross-stitched patterns you’ve done, it will be like the story of your journey through life as your design preference changed. You can even do a whole set of place mats and coaster (which you can even turn into a business venture when you have bazaars or fund-raising events). Don’t limit yourself to what you see, and what had already been suggested. be creative and innovative with your chosen craft. Make it into something that is completely your own, and who knows, that might actually turn out to be somewhat of a gold mine in the making ^^
I would have absolutely no idea how to do it, but I have heard of people using cross stitch patterns for knitting and crocheting.

Maybe you can also use the designs as templates for painting projects.
It should work for latch hook, if you are going to try to convert them for knitting then please remember that a knitted stitch is rectangular, not square. You could end up with a very squished pattern otherwise.
You could use the patterns for tapestry or even replace the coloured threads with beads and do beadwork pictures or even bead weaving.
You can graph them for knitting into pillows and sweaters, though I would go with the simpler patterns. You can certainly use them for needlepoint, and the advantage of that is that you can use a variety of stitches and threads and yarns. If you buy a canvas with a double weave, you can mix petit point with needlepoint to bring out the details.
And you can actually use the patterns to paint on canvas, adding your own touches, and enlarging by using the graph method.
