I’m having trouble reading my pattern. I’m a new cross stitcher and I have the color code and the single cross stitch down. I know how to do the other stitches, I just don’t know when to use the stitches and what exactly the pattern looks like to do those other stitches. Are there any good websites that show a pattern and then show what you need to do in each square so I can understand better?
For example, my issue right now is the upper left corner is one color and the bottom right shows to use another. In between is a solid line. I can’t find in the directions what the heck this means. . .

This indicates stitching a quarter stitch of each color. If one color is more dominant, then stitch a half stitch where the black line is to form two-color cross stitch.

Another point I would like to tell you to make your cross-stitching experience more fun is: when you find a pattern you like photo copy it. Then when you are working on the pattern you can color in the squares you’ve already done with a highlighter . That way you won’t loose your place. Makes a big difference when you do a big pattern trust me. Good Luck :0)
X is the stitch one the upper left corner is one color and the other half is another color.. The line in between is probably just for showing the half stitch. Just take one color and bring it thru the upper left corner hole and bring down in the middle of the X. You are probably using Aida Cloth so it might be a bit hard. Then take the next color. Go thru the bottom right hole and go into the spot you came down into with the other color. If this does not make sense to you then try the link below. Its hard to descripe in writing. I am a vivid cross stitcher.
